At just 27 years old, Sawan Barwal has emerged from the rugged terrain of Mandi district to become one of India’s most esteemed distance runners. Currently serving as a Havildar in the Indian Army’s Engineer Regiment, he has brought pride to the nation with his impressive victories in major athletic competitions.
His significant breakthrough occurred during the 38th National Games held in Dehradun, where he achieved:
- Gold in the 5000 meters, setting a new national meet record
- Gold in the 10,000 meters, also breaking the existing meet record
