Faridabad Man Arrested for Allegedly Sheltering Terrorist
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a resident of Faridabad, identified as Soyab, for allegedly providing refuge to terrorist Umar-un-Nabi. Umar was reportedly driving a car involved in a blast near the Red Fort on November 10. This marks the seventh arrest in connection with this case.
On Wednesday, a Delhi court remanded Soyab, accused of sheltering Umar-un-Nabi, to 10 days in NIA custody. Following his arrest from the Dhauj area of Faridabad, Soyab was presented in Patiala House Court under tight security. An official spokesperson from the NIA stated that Soyab is accused of assisting Umar, the terrorist involved in the bombing prior to the incident in Delhi. Another key suspect, Amir Rashid Ali, was also presented in court, with his custody set to expire on November 27.
Details on Soyab’s Involvement
Soyab, who worked as a lab assistant at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, allegedly aided Umar in procuring chemicals from the university lab. Prior to the blasts, he reportedly rented a house for Umar at his sister-in-law’s residence in Hidayat Colony, Nuh, Haryana. Authorities claim that Umar used this location as a hideout, storing explosives there before fleeing in an i20 car. He withdrew cash from an ATM, took the Mumbai Expressway, entered Delhi via Badarpur, and ultimately reached the Red Fort.
The Haryana Special Task Force (STF) conducted a search of the rented house on November 16 and subsequently sealed it. Soyab had been under investigation by the NIA and other agencies for several days before the formal announcement of his arrest.
The Delhi Car Blast Incident
It is important to note that on November 10, a powerful explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 parked near the Red Fort Metro Station, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals and injuring over 20 others. The blast caused a fire that rapidly spread to nearby vehicles, occurring close to Gate Number 1 of the station.
In response to the incident, the central cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has classified the car blast as a “terrorist act,” expressing condolences for the loss of life and property. The government has instructed that the investigation be expedited to ensure that those responsible, including their accomplices and sponsors, are brought to justice swiftly.
