New Delhi
A major crisis has arisen in Haryana, a BJP government, which can cause serious trouble for millions of Ayushman card holders. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has warned the government that if the arrears of private hospitals are not paid by August 7, they will stop treatment of patients under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. This decision may lead to reaching the health services of poor and middle class families. Let’s know the real reasons behind this serious situation and its effect.
Why crisis on Ayushman Bharat Scheme?
The Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Haryana has given relief to the poor and economically weaker sections in the treatment of serious diseases. Under the scheme, card holders get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, which is available in both government and private hospitals. But now due to the dues of about Rs 500 crore, private hospitals are expressing their inability to continue this service. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has clarified that if this dues are not repaid soon, they will stop giving treatment under the scheme.
Patients may suffer a big loss
Around 650 private hospitals in Haryana provide services under this scheme and more than 5 lakh card holders are benefited from it. But stopping the arrears can cause hospitals to flourish, due to which patients treating serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, kidney may face a lot of trouble. In such a situation, health safety of poor and economically weaker families will be in danger.
IMA has demanded the government to increase the budget for the Ayushman scheme from the current Rs 800 crore to Rs 2000 crore, so that problems like dues in future do not come again. On the other hand, the Health Minister of Haryana, while intervening in the dispute, has assured that the government will pay the dues as soon as possible and the plan will be continued without any hindrance.
