Election Commission Initiates Special Voter List Revision in Assam

Special Voter List Revision in Assam

The Election Commission has announced a special revision of the voter list in Assam, effective Monday. According to the directives issued by the election authority to the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, the eligibility date for this special amendment will be January 1, 2026.

Officials have clarified that this special revision serves as a process between the annual special summary revision of voter lists and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Last month, the commission had also ordered SIR for states including Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. Notably, elections are scheduled in 2026 for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal, with Assam’s SIR announcement made separately in anticipation of its elections in the same year.
