The Ministry of Earth Sciences on Thursday announced a 4,000 meter of Indian installations riding on the French submarine knot in the Atlantic Ocean. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, said, “This achievement is a major step towards India’s ambitious fisheries 6000 project. It is the country’s first indigenously developed deep sea human submarine under Samudrayan project.”
‘Matsya 6000’ is designed to reach a depth of up to 6,000 meters for deep sea exploration, resource assessment and biodiversity studies. This mission was part of India-France cooperation under the deep sea mission, which aims to pursue scientific research and technology in the deep maritime environment. The Union Minister said, “This successful dive reflects India’s growing capabilities in marine science and technology and strengthens our global partnership in marine research.”
The mission was implemented in collaboration with the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai and is expected to pave the way for future deep maritime operations, including the first manic mission in the Indian Ocean at a high depth.
Last month, the Union Minister had said that the government has steadily increased budget allocation for science and research, and has been the highest allocation in FY 2025-26 in the last five years.
