The Indian Men’s Hockey Team is preparing to kick off their Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025 journey in Ipoh, Malaysia, scheduled from November 23 to 30. With five tournament victories, India ranks as the second-most successful team in the history of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. This will mark their return to the tournament since 2019, where they finished as runners-up, according to Hockey India.
Tournament Overview
This year’s Sultan Azlan Shah Cup will be the 31st edition of this esteemed invitational hockey event. The competition will feature teams including India, Belgium, Canada, Korea, New Zealand, and the host nation, Malaysia. The format will be round-robin, with the top two teams advancing to the finals.
India’s Match Schedule
Under the leadership of captain Sanjay, Team India will commence their tournament against Korea on November 23. Their subsequent matches include Belgium on November 24, Malaysia on November 26, New Zealand on November 27, and they will wrap up the league stage against Canada on November 29.
Squad Composition
As Team India gears up for the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup and the Asian Games next year, this tournament serves as a vital platform for competitive preparation and testing new strategies. The squad features goalkeepers Pawan and Mohith HS, while the defense includes Poovanna Chandura Bobby, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Yashdeep Siwach, Jugraj Singh, Amit Rohidas, and captain Sanjay. The midfield will consist of Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, Nilakanta Sharma, Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, Vivek Sagar Prasad, and Mohammed Raheel Mouseen, while the forward line will be led by Sukhjeet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Selvam Karthi, Aditya Arjun Lalage, Dilpreet Singh, and Abhishek.

Prior to the tournament, Craig Fulton’s squad engaged in a comprehensive training camp in Bengaluru. Captain Sanjay shared insights on their preparations, stating, “We have conducted thorough preparations leading up to the tournament, focusing on specific areas we identified. This competitive event allows us to challenge ourselves against formidable international teams, and we are eager to start strong.”
