Security increased in Washington DC, Trump administration called 700 soldiers from three states

Washington
The administration of US President Donald Trump has taken a big step to further strengthen the security system in the country’s capital Washington DC. Trump has ordered the deployment of three Republican -ruled states West Virginia, South Carolina and about 700 National Guard soldiers from another state to restore law and order.

Why this step was taken?
President Trump said in a press conference held at the White House that this step is necessary to control the situation of violent crime and anarchy in Washington DC. He claimed that the murder in the capital is more than cities like Bogota, Mexico City and Islamabad. Calling it a “public safety emergency”, Trump said that his government would free the capital from violent gangs and criminals.
Opposition of local leaders
Washington DC’s Democrat Mayor Murial Bauzar has strongly criticized the decision. He said that violent crimes in Washington in 2024 were at a 30 -year low and in 2025 it had decreased by 26%. The mayor termed the move as politically motivated and undemocratic. According to him, Trump’s move challenges the autonomy of the local administration.

Despite this, Trump described the situation as serious, citing the old figures, which has been described by experts as extremely.

Deployment of national guards
West Virginia has committed 300–400 soldiers and South Carolina committed to send 200 soldiers. These soldiers will patrol with local police and federal agencies and pay attention to the safety of federal properties. Trump also said that more soldiers can be deployed when needed.

Such deployment has been done earlier also
This is not the first time Trump has resorted to the National Guard. The demonstrations after the killing of George Floid in 2020 and the Capital Hill attack in 2021 were also deployed.
