On Sunday night, a group of individuals vandalized shops in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following rumors that a calf’s head was discovered near a school adjacent to a temple. This incident was reported by a local news outlet.

As videos and messages regarding the alleged find circulated on social media, a crowd began to form in Banbhulpura, leading to the destruction of several shops and vehicles.

In response, police used batons to disperse the crowd and called in additional forces to maintain order, according to reports.

A local resident, Ravinder Gupta, lodged a complaint against an unidentified individual, and the remains were sent for forensic analysis.

Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jagdish Chandra indicated that initial CCTV footage showed a dog dragging what appeared to be a piece of meat in that area, as reported by another media outlet.

He mentioned that further investigations are ongoing.

A first information report has been filed against 40-50 unidentified individuals in connection with the vandalism, and seven people have been detained so far.

The charges include sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita related to causing harm, endangering lives, rioting, and criminal intimidation.

On Monday, local police urged the community to refrain from spreading misinformation and encouraged residents to verify information before sharing it.
