Concerns Over Shreyas Iyer’s Fitness

Despite his recent appearance, Iyer’s fitness remains a significant concern. His participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting on November 30, is uncertain. Following two Test matches beginning November 14, India is set to play ODIs in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. Reports indicate that Iyer requires additional time to recover from his injury and is not yet prepared to return to international cricket.

The selection committee has been updated on his condition. Medical assessments suggest that he needs over a month to achieve full fitness. A source from the board mentioned that Iyer needs more time to be match-ready, emphasizing that the selectors are cautious about rushing him back. At one point, Iyer’s oxygen levels reportedly dropped to 50, and he struggled to stand for nearly ten minutes as he experienced a blackout. It took some time for him to return to normal.
