A major railway accident has surfaced in Texas, USA, where about 35 coaches of the union Pacific train derailed. The accident occurred in the east of the town of Gordon, which is located about 100 km southwest of Fort Worth. However, no one has been reported injured in this horrific accident.
Accident location and circumstances
The accident occurred near Gordon when the goods train of the union Pacific slipped from the track. After this horrific derament, there was a pile of coaches at the scene, many coaches were seen climbing on top of each other. Pelo Pinto County Emergency Services District has described the accident as “dangerous and worrying”. Grass fire was also confirmed in the surrounding area, which was extinguished by the fire department after hard work.
What was in the coaches?
At present, it is not clear which materials the train was carrying. However, it is a matter of relief that there is no notice of leakage of chemicals or other dangerous materials from any compartment. Union Pacific spokesperson Robin Tiswar said, “Fire department and railway teams are present at the scene. The fire has been controlled and the condition of the coaches is being monitored.”
Track repair and rescue
Officials said that the work of repairing the track to restore railway traffic will start soon. Also, crane and heavy machinery have reached the spot to remove all coaches. Relief works are being expedited. People have been appealed to stay away from the place of accident so that the rescue work does not be interrupted.
Investigation of accident started
The cause of the accident has not been revealed so far. Union Pacific Railways and local administration have started a formal investigation together. At the primary point of view, the track malfunction or technical disturbance is feared, but the officials said that no conclusion could be reached until the investigation is completed.
